ONE DAY MEN’S PAIRS
RAYMOND TERRACE
Raymond Terrace hosted a Men’s Pairs tournament on the Monday of the June Long weekend which was hotly contested over 4 games. After three rounds, only three teams were undefeated with Rod Lawton and Daryl Perry fairing the best boasting a 37 shot margin to skips Lennon Scott and Marc Bert’s 16 and 15 respectively. After a hard fought last round match Lennon and Marc won their games whilst Rod and Daryl went down by an agonising single shot. They managed to hang on to third place thanks to their above average margin giving them the advantage over the other 3 game winners. Main prizes went to Winner: Joel Field (CBC) and Lennon Scott (RayTer) 8+21; Second: Owen Elliott and Marc Bert (RayTer) 8+16; Third: Rod Lawton (RayTer) and Daryl Perry (LTP) 6+36; Fourth: Daniel Clarke (Soldiers Point) and Phil Clarke (St Johns Park) 6+25.
On top of the main prizes an “AM” and “PM” Best Performed prize was also introduced which gave hope to those outside the major prize money who either had a good start to the day, but then flailed or vice versa. AM Best Performed went to Brad Parker and Tim Malone (RayTer) 2 wins + 25; and the PM BP went to Steve Miller and Mick Harriss (RayTer) 2 wins + 21.
Best Performed prizes for each individual round were also given to Round 1: Chris Kent (RayTer) and Andrew Hanlon (VBC) +13; Round 2: Steven Wright (Bar Beach) and Greg Johns (Merewether) +19, Round 3: Lance Jackson and Ken Morley (RayTer) + 10; Round 4: Noel Wicks and Tony Wicks (Easts).
Congratulations to all placegetters and many thanks to all who supported the day.

MAITLAND CITY 2022/2023
PRESENTATION OF CHAMPIONS
Members came together to celebrate 2022/2023 Champions of Club Maitland City on Friday 23rd June with an evening of wining, dining and music. President Henry Meskauskas OAM welcomed all in attendance and couldn't be prouder to be the President of such a great club with such great people.
Both the men and women bowlers of Maitland City have performed well in District / Zone events. Nathan Dawson notched up his 50th State Representative match. Nathan recently announced his retirement from State Representative play, but will no doubt continue to be a great asset to Club Maitland City. DJ Dilworth, Brodie Pitham and Nathan Dawson hold the Zone 6 Triples Title and Wayne Van Maastricht won the Zone Reserve Singles. Michelle Niznik and Kerry Seers teamed together to win the Hunter River District Women's Senior Pairs Title, whilst Sue O'Brien, Lyn Strickleton and Marion Crump won the District Senior Triples. The City's Grade 4 Pennant side won the Zone and made the trip to South Tamworth Bowling Club to contest the State Play-Offs. They won their section but unfortunately were defeated in the quarter-finals by St. Johns Park.
In the recent Champion of Champion play-offs Ladies Major Singles Champion Jessica Fisher won her section, but went down in the first round of play-offs to eventual finalist Carolyn Glen from Kurri Kurri in the knockout finals. Jessica also represented in the C of C Pairs with Caroline Hooker and again won the sectional played through to the quarter-finals! A sensation effort - well done Jessica and Caroline. George Niznik and Darren Kedwell also won their section in the C of C Men's Pairs division but went down in a close first round match in the knockout final series.
All champions who took the opportunity to speak thanked DJ for his drive and determination to make Maitland City, the best club it can be and thanked the board for their ongoing support of bowls.
The full list of 2022/2023 Club Maitland City Champions is included in the full article on onthegreen.net.au Congratulations to all players and good luck for the 2023/2024 season.

HAMILTON NORTH JUNE TOURNAMENTS
Hamilton North Hornets have been buzzing with activity with not 1, not 2, but THREE events in June. Two of these were played over the June Long weekend starting with the A&J Air 2 Bowl Triples which was a cruisy Saturday afternoon tournament with 2 games of 12 ends. Lee Schraner, fresh from the State Champion of Champions Play-offs where he won BOTH the Singles and Pairs, continued his good form to take out the top prize with team mates Adam Chaffey (Soldiers Point) and Joel Field (Charlestown). They won both their games with the highest margin of +31. Tony Ball, Troy Ball and Stuart Clarke came home strong winning their second match by 17 shots to claim second place on 4+22. They snatched second by just 1 shot over locals Mark Casey, Jamie Lee and Mark Evans who had two good games finishing on 4+21. In fourth place was Scott Ellis, Jarrod Bent and Daniel Hill on 4+18 and taking the last of the top prizes was James Welsh, Josh Reynolds and Jim Sillet. Well done to all!
On the Monday A&J Air also sponsored a 7Up Pairs event that was played over 3 games of 12 ends. Congratulations to winners John Parkinson & Wayne Smith who absolutely smashed it with 3 wins + 57. John and Wayne had two fantastic wins in the first and second round +25 and +28 respectively and finished with a +4 to secure the top prize. Second to fourth place were also undefeated but a much closer affair with margins ranging from 16 – 26. Well done to W. Medhurst & J. Petherbridge in second on 3+26; P. Thomas & M. Evans in third with 3+17 and B. Scott & D. Lang in fourth on 3+16. The last of the prize money went to B. Hoban & M. Cooper who finished in fifth with 2 wins, a draw + 19.
The third and final event was one for the ladies with an Open Fours played on Wednesday 28th June. 28 teams took to the greens for 2 rounds of 10 ends followed by lunch and raffle. It couldn’t be much closer with the two main prizes tied on 2 wins +16. Congratulations to Hamilton North’s Hann Cleary, Pam Markey, Karen Young and Jodie Dorricott who had the advantage of 13 ends to 12 ends over second place Annette Pontey, Maria Smith, Karen Mason and Val Fullick from Charlestown. A consolation prize was drawn out of the hat and that went to Cardiff’s Maureen Mitchell, Kris Brogan, Helen Lott and Diane Moore.
Well done to Hamilton North Bowls Co-Ordinator Mark Casey with all events run efficiently with the assistance of Tony Gilmour on the scoreboard. Thank you to all who played, and to all who helped behind the scenes.

BLOOMS THE CHEMIST MIXED PAIRS
RAYMOND TERRACE
Raymond Terrace’s Blooms the Chemist Mixed Pairs was played over 4 Monday nights at the end of 2022. Players enjoyed a game each evening culminating on the 12th December with the presentation. It was an enjoyable and laid back experience and I can speak first hand as Dean and I decided to play for the first time ever!! We have played the odd fun game here or there, equating to around 3 or 4 times in the 22 years since we took over the magazine back in 2000. We have now effectively doubled our playing experience!Being newbie bowlers, this gave our opposition a pretty good advantage. In fact, every single team that opposed us ended up taking the prize for Best Performed Round with the exception of Pat Skinner and Shane Evans in Round 3 who took out the major prize money. To their credit I must say that Shane and Pat won on their own merit, they would have taken the top prize in any case whether they beat us by 1 shot or the 24 shots. Thanks to all our new friends that we played against for their patience, guidance and knowledge. Thanks also to Lennon who gave us a few pointers rolling up, and Clay Parker who gave us a whirlwind lesson on the “Fishlock Stance”.Now down to the nitty gritty. The top 5 teams going into the last round were the same 5 at the end, only the order changed a bit. Young guns Brendan Stokes and Zoe Nichols were leading overall, but dropped 3 to finish fifth. All the other teams won their final match with final placings as follows: Winners: Pat Skinner and Shane Evans (RayTer) 8+75; Second: Kelly Giles and Shaun Richards (RayTer) 8+50; Third: Sharon McReynolds and Shane Riley (RayTer) 8+43; Fourth: Tanya Ware and Ian Brown (Kurri Kurri) 8+21; Fifth: Zoe Nichols and Brendan Stokes (RayTer) 6+51; Best Performed Round 1: Dot and Leigh Povey (Hexham) +25; Round 2: Catherine Johnston and Ray Cooper (RayTer) +31; Round 3: Robyn Belcher and Ron Nelligen +21; Round 4: Deb Skinner and Dave Burgess (RayTer) +36.If you have taken the time to tally those best performed scores in R1, 2 & 4 and add the 24 shots that we lost to Shane and Pat, I think we may have a record?? O-116 – can anyone beat that?!
